IDLE MUSING ON A SUNNY AFTERNOON

The valium I took for an early afternoon dental appointment kicked in later than expected, so instead of getting ready to go to the dojo and train, I'm puttering around unable to use any kind of tools that require much manual dexterity or balance.

It did make it a good afternoon to stroll the front and back yards very slowly, in 80 degree sunshine with a light breeze, checking the soil and leaves on the vegies, taking pictures of the flowers. I just posted a lot of photos on Flickr. Yes, I can use a computer when neurologically impaired.

I was eager to get to the dojo today. After a year in which I worked on improving basics while exploring and challenging the boundaries of my disabilities, the challenges are now coming from the outside: getting into more advanced stuff, or techniques I haven't done in several years now, like weapons takeaways. Besides that, though, there has been a fascinating discussion over on aikiweb, initiated by George Ledyard, in which I've participated. It has to do with some straightforward physiological stuff and I can't wait to get on the mat and play with it. Except I have to wait, at least until Thursday now.

The picture is our latest home addition: a wooden pig made by a local artisan and sold at the Farmer's Market. It's living in our courtyard for now. When we empty the courtyard (which we will have to do sometime next month, before the house gets an exterior paint job) it will go live out back until the rainy season.

I still haven't finished the cinder block wall painting. First it got too hot (over 90). Then it got too humid (a week of threatening to rain but no actual rain). Now I'm too impaired. This is another thing I'm eager to get to, not only to see it actually finished, but because I will not permit myself to return to the studio for painting or sewing until this project is done. There is a limit to the number of incomplete projects I will allow!
